In a hydraulic meter-out circuit the flow control valve is installed on the cylinder return line. The cylinder speed will be controlled through its discharge flow. The relief valve in meter-out circuit typically set at slightly lower than the cylinder operating pressure.
Hydraulic meter-out is suitable for application which the work load tends to pull faster than the pump can overcome such as drilling.
