Hydraulic Vane Pump Volumetric Efficiency

Vickers Pump Model 25V-T is a hydraulic vane pump which has a 4.81 in3/rev displacement with max speed 1800 rpm and max pressure 2500 psi.

vane pump volumetric efficiency 1800 rpm

Vane pump volumetric efficiency 1800 rpm

The vane pump volumetric efficiency at 1200 rpm decreases from 97.3% at 500 psi to 84% at 2500 psi. While the hydraulic gerotor pump volumetric efficiency decreased from 91.5 to 78% at the same speed and pressure. The vane pump volumetric efficiency is 5% higher than the gerotor pump. Due to its construction, the leakage flow in vane pump is less than the gerotor pump, thus the volumetric efficiency is higher.

vane pump overall efficiency 1200 rpm

Vane pump overall efficiency 1200 rpm

The vane pump volumetric efficiency at 1800 rpm decreased from 97.8% at 500 psi to 88% at 2500 psi. The pump has the same high speed characteristic with gerotor pump, the volumetric efficiency is higher as the shaft speed is increased higher.

vane pump overall efficiency 1800 rpm

Vane pump overall efficiency 1800 rpm

The overall performance of hydraulic vane pump efficiency is low at lower pressures. As the working pressure increases, the overall efficiency also increases. The vane pump flatter efficiency curve is indicating that vane pump performance is stable as load pressure changes in the 1000 to 2500 psi range.

Vane Pump Volumetric and Overall Efficiency at 1200 and 1800 RPM

The hydraulic vane pump overall efficiency is much lower than volumetric. The overall efficiency includes the friction and the leakage power losses.
